Serve
...whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.
-Jesus (Matthew 25:40)
We at Trinity desire to serve beyond the walls of this church, to make a difference in our neighbourhood, our community, our country, and our world. We believe that God is at work to reconcile His entire creation and we wish to join in His work to redeem this broken world. Jesus had a particular soft spot for those whose lives were made difficult by poverty or marginalization. We seek to love Him by loving them. It is our prayer that our actions will be a tangible expression of Jesus love for those we serve.
Our efforts to love others may take the form of providing for immediate needs in charitable ways, or working towards transforming unjust structures in the world which enable oppression to happen. We haven’t fully figured out what it looks like to live justly in the burbs, but we are committed to trying. Actions range from the small (and loving), such as deciding to purchase only ethically traded coffee, or more complicated ones, such as sending a team to build homes in a poor area of Mexico; from direct face to face interaction, such as serving meals in the inner city, to advocacy on behalf of those we serve, such as reminding our politicians of their promise to financially support the Millenium Development Goals. There are as many different expressions of service at Trinity as there are people.
Together, the people of Trinity are interested in partnering with ministries and organizations where we see God at work, where we hear others using their voices to speak up for those who can’t, and where resources are applied to alleviating suffering.
